It's true many professional underwater photographers have transitioned to digital, in many cases based on requirements of their customers in the publishing industry.   However, it still takes at least a 6-megapixel image to make a nearly-photo-quality 11 X 17 print, and image quality is also significantly affected by the quality of the lenses.  If you want to print a true photo-quality 16 X 20 for your wall (as I have done a number of), you just can't do it with the vast majority of housed digital systems unless you want to spend a LOT of money.  With Nikonos systems you can take world-class images through superior Nikon optics for a fraction of the cost compared to a digital system that will produce a comparable file size.  Even the pricier Nikonos RS system will produce world-class larger images for a fraction of the cost of new digital gear with similar image-producing capabilities.

When I tried a housing with my digital camera, I was frustrated at the delay between the time I pushed the shutter release and the time the picture was actually taken.  I have a nice collection of "butt shots" where I saw a great image, but, by the time the camera actually got around to taking the picture the primary subject had turned and was headed the other way.  Autofocus wasn't nearly as reliable as it is with the Nikonos RS, and using a pre-set 15mm or 20mm Nikonos lens with the incredible depth of field they have even eliminates that delay--you get the picture as you see it when you press the shutter!
